What are glasses?

Glasses are prescription devices that improve your vision. They feature two lenses mounted on a metal or a plastic frame that rests comfortably on your ears and the bridge of your nose.

Glasses are one of the most popular types of vision correction. In fact, up to 150 million Americans wear glasses daily.

Who is a candidate for glasses?

You might be a candidate for glasses if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Blurred vision
  • Double vision
  • Headaches
  • Needing to squint to see clearly
  • Objects having “auras” or “halos” around them
  • Distorted vision
  • Eyestrain

You might also benefit from glasses if you have difficulty seeing and/or driving at night.

What are some vision problems that glasses treat?

Crystal Vision Optometry uses glasses to treat various vision problems, including:

Nearsightedness occurs when you can see objects clearly up close, but objects in the distance appear blurry or distorted.

Farsightedness occurs when objects up close appear blurry or distorted, while objects in the distance appear mostly clear.

If you have astigmatism, light bounces off of your retina unevenly. That causes images to appear blurry, distorted, or stretched out.

Presbyopia is an age-related condition that affects your eyes’ ability to focus on nearby objects. Typically, it affects people who are 45 or older.

What happens during a glasses consultation?

Crystal Vision Optometry performs glasses consultations during an in-office visit.

Your provider reviews your medical records and asks about your vision, including the symptoms you’re experiencing and if you’ve worn glasses or contact lenses in the past. Next, they conduct a complete eye exam, including a visual acuity test, measurement of your eye pressure, and an evaluation of your eyes.

If your provider determines that you have a vision problem, like farsightedness, nearsightedness, or presbyopia, they write a lens prescription that aligns with your needs.
